Where the visible joints have been built, it is advisable to
bind them with rattan peel. Wrapping is used extensively as
strengthening and as decorative features. The most common types of
binding are the wrap around and mat weave. Wrap around binding is
usually used on butt joints while the mat weave is used for covering
the exposed ends of cane, for example, on the arm rest.
